Harold L. “Jay” Babcock Jr., 58, of Bumpass passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the University of Virginia Hospital surrounded by his loving family.Jay retired as the fire marshal from the City of Fredericksburg after 25 years of service. He was currently working as a deputy with Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Department. Jay owned Babcock’s Home Inspections. He was a life member of Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department.

Jay loved people. He was a great storyteller and had many friends. Jay was an awesome husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was an avid tournament fisherman, hunter and former mini stock driver #55 at Old Dominion Speedway.

Survivors include his wife, Wendi Babcock; children Daniel P. Babcock (Mary), Sarah N. “Sarah Jean” Babcock (Alana Cooper) and Katie L. “Half Pint” Lane (Kirk); father Harold Leigh Babcock Sr. (Barbara); siblings Martin G. Babcock (Nicole), Scott Babcock (Shannon) and Donielle Crabtree (Jeff); grandchildren Dominic, Danica, Mia, Izabella and Carter whom he loved very much; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Madonna Amidon.
